Marshall McLuhan is the director of the Center for Culture and Technology at the University of Toronto. He is the author of The Mechanical Bride and The Gutenberg Galaxy, a book that won the Canadian Governor-General's Award for critical prose in 1963. In the United States he has taught at the University of Wisconsin and the University of St. Louis, and between 1953 and 1955, was chairman of the Ford Foundation Seminar on Culture and Communication. He has also contributed many articles to technical and literary periodicals in this country and Canada, and makes frequent appearances on television and on the lecture platform.
